Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, message us — we would rather answer it directly than have you guess.

Trying the academy

Are the trial lessons really free?

Yes. Two 30-minute lessons with the teacher who would go on to teach the student. We do not take card or bank details for a trial, and nothing begins automatically afterwards.

What if we do not want to continue?

Tell us and that is the end of it. There is nothing to cancel and nothing to pay.

Lessons and teachers

Are the lessons one-to-one or in a group?

Always one-to-one — one student and one teacher, live. We do not run group classes and we do not sell recorded courses.

Can I request a female teacher?

Yes. Female teachers teach women and girls, and male teachers teach men and boys. Tell us your preference before the trial lesson.

My child does not speak Arabic. How will they follow the lesson?

The teacher explains in the language the child is comfortable in — English, French, German, Italian or Spanish, subject to availability — and moves gradually towards Arabic as the student’s level rises.

Can I change teacher?

Yes, at any time, at no cost, and without giving a reason.

How young can a child start?

Around five years old for most children. Below that, attention span rather than ability is usually the limit — talk to us and we will tell you honestly whether it is worth starting now or waiting.

Can a parent sit in on the lesson?

Always, and you do not need to arrange it in advance.

Which platform do you use for lessons?

A video call on a platform agreed with you — commonly Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp video. The teacher shares the page being studied on screen. No special software purchase is needed.

Should the lesson be 30 or 60 minutes?

Thirty minutes suits most young children and beginners. Sixty minutes is usually better for adults and memorisation students. You can switch at any time.

Scheduling

Who chooses the lesson times?

You do. Lessons are booked in your own time zone, and evening and weekend slots are available.

What if we need to move a lesson?

Tell the teacher at least 12 hours in advance and it is rescheduled free of charge. A lesson missed without notice counts as taught.

What if the teacher misses a lesson?

It is made up at a time that suits you, or removed from the month’s invoice — your choice.

Can we pause during holidays or exams?

Yes. Tell us the dates and we suspend the schedule. Since you are billed only for lessons taught, a pause simply means a smaller invoice.

Progress and certificates

How do we know the student is progressing?

The teacher records what was covered in each lesson and sends a summary of progress every month, including what to work on next.

Do you issue certificates?

Yes, on completion of a Juz’ or a defined stage of a programme. Certificates are issued by BARAKKA LLC on the basis of our own assessment and carry no external accreditation — we are not an accredited school and do not claim to be.

Fees and billing

When do we pay?

At the end of each month, for the lessons that were actually taught during that month. Never in advance, and never for a lesson that did not happen.

Is there a subscription or a contract?

No. There is no minimum term, nothing renews automatically, and no payment method is stored.

Which currency do you invoice in?

Pounds sterling (GBP). If you pay from an account in another currency, your bank or payment provider applies its own conversion rate and any charges.

How much does it cost?

From £16 a month for one 30-minute lesson a week, and from £32 a month for one 60-minute lesson a week. The full rate card is on the pricing page.

Do you offer refunds?

Because we bill after lessons are delivered there is normally nothing to refund. Payments taken in error — duplicates, unauthorised payments, or a lesson billed that was not taught — are refunded in full. See the Refund Policy.
